Always thought that Bhutan is an expensive country to visit until I started doing some homework on the country.
After gathering my travel mates and finalising the travel dates, we started training to prepare for the Tiger Nest (more of this later).
Nothing prepared me for the high altitude. Within a hour, I managed to get car sick and had to change seats with our tour guide at Dochula Pass. But hey, I got the best view for the next 7 days. After a day tour and finally reaching the hotel, our tour guide told us to come down after resting for a while.
"SURPRISE!"
There were balloons, chocolates cake with 8 candles (because it represents prosperity based on our tour guides understanding from her previous guests) and peach wine waiting for us. I felt like a kid spoilt rotten by the treat because we chose to travel on my birthday.
Thank you Mrs TP, Mr TP & Druk for the surprise.
The next few days were spent with the usual places of attraction planned out by our dear tour guide based on mother nature (weather).
Finally we reached the day for the long awaited Tiger Nest adventure! Mrs TP told us to get ready by 6am so we can avoid the sun. Our training at home didnt seems to help much, we took a very long time to complete the trek. I think Mrs TP was shocked how long we took. It was a complete 6 hours before we managed to come back to ground level.
As expected the tour came to an end very soon. By then, we had developed good rapport with our driver and tour guide. Upon our return home, we kept in contact with them and had planned to return to Bhutan one day. But alas, it has not happened till date due to the Covid-19 situation.
Now, we hope that we can return soon. Till then, we will continue to miss Bhutan and TPs.
